About AECENL

AECENL is the professional organization for those with qualifications in early childhood education or working in child care or related fields. We have been representing the issues of our members since 1989 when it was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization. AECENL represents its members’ issues on boards and committees in addition to meeting with government, and brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table as the issues are discussed.

The Child Care Services Act introduced the certification system for those qualified and practicing in the field of child care. This is a cornerstone to the recognition of early childhood educators (ECEs) as professionals. AECENL has a service contract with government to implement certification and provide professional development for ECEs.

AECENL spearheaded the proclamation of Early Childhood Educators’ Week by the province many years ago and continues to ensure that the child care sector, and those who work in it, are recognized for the important work that they do. Early Childhood Educators’ Week is celebrated annually during the last week of May each year.

AECENL has a seat on the member council of the Canadian Child Care Federation. Our affiliate member status adds our expertise to the national voice for child care issues which is heard at the federal level.

Since 1993, AECENL has held an annual provincial conference to bring together those working in the field through the provision of expert guest speakers, workshops and networking opportunities. The evaluations show that those who attend find that this event helps them in their work of delivering high quality child care and supporting families in their parenting roles.
