About AECENL

AECENL has been representing the issues of child care practitioners and quality child care since 1989 when it was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization. As long-time promoters of National Child Day (November 20th each year) we work to highlight the rights of children.

AECENL spearheaded the proclamation of "Early Childhood Educators' Week" by the Province many years ago and continues to ensure that the Child Care Sector and those who work in it are recognized for their important work. Beginning this year Early Childhood Educators' Week will be celebrated annually beginning the last Monday of April and continuing to the following Sunday. Be sure to check back to the AECENL website in the New Year for more information about the proclamation and activities during ECE week!

CCCF Affiliate LogoOur affiliate member status with the Canadian Child Care Federation benefits our members with dual membership in both organizations and access to resources and a quarterly magazine "Interaction" produced by the CCCF.

AECENL holds an annual provincial conference (since 1993), workshops and social events (priority registration and reduced or no fee for AECENL members).

The Child Care Services Act and Regulations introduced a certification system for those practicing in the field of child care. This achievement is a cornerstone to the recognition of Early Childhood Educators as professionals. Our continued work on our Code of Ethics will further enhance this image.

AECENL represents child care practitioners' issues on the the Provincial Child Care Advisory Committee and on other boards and committees which enhance the care and education of children. AECENL’s voice is heard through the Early Childhood Services Advisory Committee with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
